School Experience
St Angela’s offers School Experience placements for people thinking about a career in teaching, to see if it is suitable. If you are interested please contact us to arrange a visit. Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses are also available for certain teacher training places.
The School Experience Programme (SEP) is a way of helping prospective trainees gain some classroom experience before starting initial teacher training. You will have the chance to spend time in a school and see what it’s like to be a teacher. The initial visit will be one day, with the possibility of further days at the discretion of the school. When you visit you will:-
-
speak to the teachers about day-to-day school life
-
observe teaching and pastoral work
-
see a range of age groups being taught in the subject you’re interested in
School experience is desirable if you are interested in becoming a teacher. Before you apply for teacher training, it would be beneficial to gain as much experience in the classroom as possible in order to prepare you for potential interviews.
The School Experience programme is run by the Department of Education. For more details and how to apply click here.
